In the fall of 2023 Karen gathered Tico's friends, family and co-workers for a special project - selecting a wine as a dedication to Tico. It was Ticos's passion to share the experience of wine with everyone he encountered, especially wines from his birthplace - Chile's Colchagua Valley. We partnered with Viña Ventisquero, who sent us wines for us to try - our goal was to pick one special wine but we ended up selecting two! Every bottle is "signed" by Tico - thank you Harcio & everyone at Ventisquero for including the signature from his artwork on the labels, it means so much to al of us.
The first wine is the Tico Gran Reserva Carménère from the Trinidad VIneyard in Chile's Maipo Valley. This is a wine for for sharing with notes of red cherry & plum with hits of dark chocolate & coffee. We think it is delicious!
The second wine is the Especial, a red blend from Colchagua. When we were trying the wines to select everyone who knew Tico tried it and smiled, this wine is a perfect expression of the terroir of Colchagua. Tico led there by sharing the wines and the stories of Colchagua, there was absolutely no mistaking the wine in the bottle. Especial is a bold wine with a tale to tell - deep ruby in colour, expressing black cherry, cassis, dark chocolate, anise & roasted hazelnut on the palate.
The third wine is the Desafio Sur Fuentes Estate Grand Reserve Carmenere from the Itata Valley in Chile. We were introduced to this wine by one of Tico's dear friends and we are very grateful.
Desafio is a family owned vineyard in the Itata Valley of Chile, specializing in sustainable farming and handcrafting wines. Rolando & Paz are passionate about what they do and it shows in the wine! Their Carmenere is a captivating blend of rich flavors and refined structure. You'll find notes of black cherries and blueberries, intertwined with hints of aromatic spices like black pepper and clove. Its medium-bodied profile envelops the senses with a velvety texture, where smooth, discernible tannins lend impeccable balance.
